I think the reason why Prince of the City failed at the box office is because it was out sold by summer blockbusters like Raiders of the Lost Ark, Superman II, and Stripes. Even after Jaws and Star Wars came out, the press began to report the opening weeks grosses and when different kinds of movies are wrongly mistreated as “damaged goods” by not being on the list of the top grossing movies that week, then people are not interested.
