I guess Gene Roddenberry had to throw Shanter a bone and allow him to get a chance to direct to feed his ego. He must’ve been high on Romulan Ale. How else can you explain scenes featuring the crew singing “Row Row Row Your Boat” and an embarrassing scene of Uhura doing a fan dance? Thankfully, it wasn’t “The Final Frontier”, as the original cast did get a proper sendoff in “The Undiscovered Country”.
