Roger seemed to be one of the only critics who liked Black Cauldron. Also, in his print review, he talks about someone asking him about the pig, but he didn’t mention it was Gene for some weird reason.
Although I don’t doubt that Roger Ebert likes animated features, I think that he clearly has a pro Disney bias, as his review of The Black Cauldron more than demonstrates. That movie almost killed Disney animation and suffered from its troubled production.

I’ve actually read that Explorers was never really finished. The film had a very rushed production.
