It is thanks to this insightful special episode that I now rank Robert Redford alongside Clint Eastwood, Gary Cooper and Michael Douglas as having one of the most fascinating and remarkable careers of all Hollywood leading men (Eastwood for his being a “man for all seasons” artist, Cooper for his being a continual evolution of the American action hero – and his being arguably the most authentic film star – and Douglas for his topical career choices and creating an emotionally-authentic and resonant portrait of the “modern man” in the 1980s and 1990s).
All the President’s Men (1976) is one of the greatest films ever made, and the lyrical and poetic A River Runs Through It (1992) remains a personal favourite of mine.
Online episode guides have this episode originally airing on 10/31/1992. I think when they’re announcing the movies for the next week, there is a pause after Siskel says “including” so that they can switch tape to announce the movies that are coming after this rerun, obviously different from the ones that came after the 1992 airing of this episode.
Using the guide on thetvdb, the missing episodes for this year appear to be the below. I did notice the individual review of Turtles III is on YouTube:
S07E17 The Best Films of 1992 (1/2/1993)
S07E29 Born Yesterday/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III/Married to It/Like Water for Chocolate (3/27/1993)
S07E32 Benny & Joon/The Positively True Adventures of the Alleged Texas Cheerleader Murdering Mom/Map of the Human Heart/Visions of Light: The Art of Cinematography (4/17/1993)
S07E35 Dave/My Neighbor Totoro/Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story/Much Ado About Nothing/The Pickle (5/8/1993)
S07E37 The Seventies (5/22/1993)
S07E47 Rising Sun/Tom and Jerry: The Movie/Robin Hood: Men in Tights/So I Married an Axe Murderer/Searching for Bobby Fischer (7/31/1993)
