Gene, Gene, Gene….. Paul Newman won the Academy Award for “Color of Money,” not “The Verdict.” He was nominated for it (and 7 other movies, I believe), but didn’t win.
I think they were both way too hard on “Nobody’s Fool” anyway, it’s a wonderful movie with great performances all around. The guy who plays Newman’s son is pretty bland—frankly, I’d like to have seen what Bruce Willis would’ve done with the role—but everybody else was fantastic. Just because it’s one of Newman’s best performances doesn’t mean the others aren’t any good. If you haven’t seen it, you should.
