  • Ah yes, one of Roger’s most controversial reviews, right along his reviews of Die Hard, The Elephant Man, and Blue Velvet. Yes, The Thing did open to bad reviews in 1982, but in the following years, it later has a critical re evaluation and has since been called one of the best sci-fi/horror films ever made. I don’t even bother watching that review because The Thing is amazing.

    • Oh, I see what you’re saying this is still Sneak Previews on PBS not At The Movies by Tribune. I think the Tribune produced At The Movies show started in 1982 AFTER these summer movies like The Thing and E.T.(June, 1982).

My best guess is Sneak Previews officially ended late Aug, 82 and At The Movies started early Sep, 1982. Funny, I think Gene went around telling everyone he was doing Sneak Previews “without a contract” for many months until he finally finagled a contract with Tribune.

      • I think it was the same thing with Tribune to Disney..
