Robocop 2 doesn’t touch the original by a mile, but I do have affection for it, it makes my top 20 for 1990 (but just barely) and many of the things they criticize here are things I like, such as the psycho kid character.
Betsy’s Wedding is a decent comedy, but not much more than that. Though I think it deserved a moderate recommendation.
Gremlins 2 is an absolute wackfest of a sequel, but I love it and it makes my top 20 for 1990 on sheer craziness and the wealth of over-the-top ideas they throw at you. For those that haven’t seen the Key & Peele sketch on how the film came to be, I urge you to check it out. I can’t really fault them for down thumbing this one as it is an acquired taste.
How funny it is to hear them mention Donald Trump. Kinda reminds me old Ronald Reagan movies. A public figure mentioned and talked about decades before their presidency.
Well, Trump has been around a long time. In the 80’s and 90’s he was this NY billionaire businessman, who did make appearances as himself in films and TV and then ran for the Presidency and got it. Reagan was a B-movie actor and TV person who eventually got into politics. He had been governor of California and had run for President earlier until he finally won in 1980.
Well, I really liked “RoboCop 2”. I know there were mixed reviews by critics including Siskel and Ebert. But I thought it was awesome. I like a whirring sound effects where RoboCop was doing movements and walking. And I thought RoboCain was especially interesting. Cain had a serious armor, loaded ammunition, and very threatening. I think RoboCain was a much better interesting evil mechanical cyborg than Ed-209. Now a mobster, Hob… it didn’t bother me. Sorry, Siskel and Ebert, but I enjoyed “RoboCop 2” a lot. Thumbs up for me.
